About the Artist……..

“I am poor but very sure of love within my heart,

And tho I’m shy and seek to hide--it bursts upon my art” LF

Lawrence Foss is a long time resident of Chico and Paradise, California. He is a graduate of CSU Chico and earned an AA, BA and teaching credential in art.  “Larry” moves easily into all areas of artistic endeavor and with his quick drawing abilities in portraits, caricatures, and cartoons, he is often retained for social functions as well.

He is a 5th generation San Franciscan on his mother’s side and a descendant of the 49er miners from both of his father’s parents. Impervious to poison oak, Larry is drawn to explore rugged scenic areas.  Working in pastels (the dry form of oil paints), he pans out the local "color".  He is in a continual search for unique compositions of recognizable historical places.   Do you recognize any of the paintings on display?

“The observation of nature alters my usual sanguine personality; I become quieted, reflective and shy.  There is great beauty and a haunting sadness in the wilds that enriches the soul of man.  The beautiful fleeting effects of nature moves me; it's rather like our lives, here now in a bit of glory and then gone forever.  I think, perhaps, that the only thing that is real is what we have received from the Creator.”
